Tyler Thomas is steeped in the traditions of jazz. Born into a musical family, he first learned to sing and improvise by playing with his Nana, uncles, and cousins. Both a perpetual student and passionate teacher, he has performed as a guest artist and clinician, and in numerous masterclasses, most recently with acclaimed jazz vocalist Kurt Elling. Tyler has toured and recorded with the UNT Jazz Singers, headlining at the Oceanside Jazz Festival in Oceanside, California, and the Jazz Education Network Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. An active arranger and songwriter, his works for SSAA and SATB ensembles were most recently featured at the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival in Denton, Texas. Tyler holds both a BM in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, and an MM in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, with a concentration in pedagogy. He currently teaches voice and music technology at Shaker High School in the North Colonie school district.
